Monthly Newsletter June 2014
MYRADOON
The media has been showing more and more interest in our women’s shelter. ARM News wanted to tour our facility, and they invited our staff and the residents to take part in their news program. They aired the program twice, and we have noticed a growing interest in our work among locals as a result. (See the ARM news program at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qc12kah-6q4). Our Hot Line number (free of charge to the caller: 20-80) now rings more than ever. The abuse is no more a “Dapu,” and many young women that desperately need our help know where to come. Everybody who turns to us finds a helping hand!
We continue conducting our educational courses at the shelter, including computer, sewing, manicure/pedicure, cooking and baking classes. We strive to give those we serve an opportunity to work and earn money, in an effort to build their confidence and teach them independence.
We are also actively involved in various community outreach and educational programs, in an effort to educate government employees, such as the police, and the population at large. For example, Naira Muradyan, our Director, has been participating in various seminars. Shediscussed our activities during Training/Coordination Meeting on SGBV Prevention and Response. She also took part in Society Without Abuse seminar.
AID TO THE COMMUNITIES
We continue our “FEED THE ELDERS” Program, which has become very popular. We have three new Elders that take part in our growing Program.
In recent weeks, we gave out two wheelchairs. We continue giving aid to people who write to us for help. This month, 50 individuals received food and clothing through letters. We also distributed to three villages (132 families totaling 722 people in three districts). We also sent out bedding, hygiene products and toys to Monica & Mane Kindergarten in Tawoush Region.
Recently, on an emergency basis, we added helping the Syrian Armenian refugees in Armenia, by way of giving food and clothing and other essentials. Our God is always with us to help our brothers and sisters. We are grateful to our supporters who help us make this happen.
